Collecting Scrap Metal
The first step of the scrap metal recycling process starts with you. Before gathering all of your unwanted scrap metal, the first step is identifying which metals can and cannot be recycled. Once you have collected what is accepted at your local scrap yard, the next step is to schedule scrap metal pick up by the Tal Metal team or to drop it off at our scrap yard in Toronto.
Sorting
Once your local scrap yard collects the scrap metal from you, they begin the sorting process and separate ferrous from non-ferrous metals. Although you may have sorted your collection at home - which is helpful, our team of professionals at Tal Metal always sorts through the metals for quality assurance purposes.
Processing
The next step is to process the scrap metal recycling. During the procedure, the metals are compacted and squeezed together. Hydraulic machinery then electronically cut the metals into smaller pieces. The next step is shredding the metal into smaller pieces by processing it through hammer mills to make the melting process go more smoothly. At Tal Metal, we ensure your scrap metal is taken care of and goes through the scrap metal recycling process.
Melting & Purification
Scrap metals are melted using a large furnace and set to the needed temperature. The process can take minutes to hours to complete as each metal size varies. Once the metals have melted into a liquid state, they’re poured over moulds to create small bricks of solid metal. Then, an electrolysis system is used to remove any contaminants that may interfere with the process.
Solidifying & Finalizing
After melting and purification, the dissolved metals cool and form a solid material. The metals are typically solidified into bar shapes so they can easily be used in producing metal products.
Why It’s Important to Recycle Scrap Metal
Recycling scrap metal allows for it to be reused in manufacturing new products like building vehicles, aircraft, and other transportation methods. Doing so significantly reduces the need for mining for new metals and decreases the amount of waste that gets sent off to landfills to pile up. At Tal Metal, we understand the importance of recycling scrap metals and take great pride in offering environmentally friendly recycling.
